i would like to rip the audio tracks from the quake 3 arena game. i
know this has little to do with eac, but perhaps someone here will be
able to help. it seems that the tracks are in a file that was
installed by the game on my hard drive called "pak0.pk3". i do not
know what file type they are, but i have seen mp3s of them around the
net. is there any way to get into this file are remove the audio
tracks?

This has nothing to do with EAC. The .pk3 files are just .zip files, simply
rename them. You should be able to figure out the rest. Next time please go
to a site related to Quake 3 games, there are thousands of them.

Hi Auguste,

You are absolutely correct, I apologize to everyone for my rudeness, it's
been an odd day ^_^ I will watch my typing in the future!

Also, please forgive my absence from the newsgroup, I've been very busy of
late. Should have some time in the near future, however.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Dunno if it will work with Quake 3 Arena, but the only app that I know to do the job is Game Audio Player (GAP).
It is able to extract tunes from some compacted files like .pak, .wad, etc...

Hope it helps

There's a cool program called Total Recorder <http://www.highcriteria.com/productfr.htm#prod_TR> that will record the game's output to a wav file.

hi..
this is the first mail i write to this group, so let's hope u answer it:P

if i burn live music cd's with nero or another app, there's a gap between songs.

writing a cd using eac, and disc at once mode, should produce the same thing?

thanks in advance

Hi there,

KRC> if i burn live music cd's with nero or another app,
KRC> there's a gap between songs.

This tells me that you've got the CD as separate songs. If
so, you can control the gaps between them when burning with
Nero. Just double click on every song in the compilation and
change the default 2 seconds to zero.

KRC> writing a cd using eac, and disc at once mode, should
KRC> produce the same thing?

Again, this depends on your settings. Disk-at-Once, as such,
has nothing to do with gaps, but rather defines hardware and
bus behaviors. When making a compilation to burn for EAC,
look carefully on the settings - there should be some about
the gaps on Append Tracks. Plus, with EAC you will have an
option to fiddle with those gaps by manually editing .cue
file created for the compilation.

Hope this helps,

There are several reasons why you may have the gaps you do not want. I
assume that the gaps are not in the original recording; if they are, you
need to remove them. Another possibility is that you are writing from MP3s
or from WAVs which are not split on block boundaries; in that case, you
will have very brief gaps. However, I assume that you are talking about the
common gaps - two seconds each - which appear between tracks. Those are
easy to avoid in EAC.

When you access the Layout menu, you will see at the bottom a line to
introduce a two-second gap between tracks. Simply uncheck that and the
tracks will be continuous. (Again, if you have WAVs which have not been
properly split, MP3s under any conditions, or some other conditions, you
may have very small gaps or clicks. If that is your problem, come back to
us for additional information.
