Yes, AccurateRip is integrated into EAC quite nicely, without the need for
any user intervention. The calculated CRCs are compared to the online
database (even when entire disks are ripped as image and cue) and you are
given the results in a summary after the job. If you have a broadband
connection to the Internet, the overhead isn't noticeable. Local CRCs are
batched and uploaded to AccurateRip according to a schedule you can control.
I like having another check for the accuracy of the rip, but it's not
necessary for you to use that to use EAC. I believe you can disable
AccurateRip in the EAC -> Drive Options menu (Offset/Speed tab) for the
selected drive. Currently, I have V0.99 prebeta 3 installed.
You can certainly find out much more on the forums, and I suggest you spend
some time there, especially if you're new to EAC. If you don't want or have
a fast Internet connection; wish to use EAC in a standalone, disconnected
configuration; or primarily rip non-commercial CDs (as you've suggested);
then AccurateRip probably is of little use to you. Disable it and don't fret
about it. EAC will work as well as ever--you'll just not have that one extra
assurance of accuracy.

Post by TAFKASthanks for your reply marcus
i have some questions - if anyone knows please speak up
Post by Marcus Kwokhttp://www.accuraterip.com/
i did find that b4 but it just didn't make any sense to me, i couldn't
get my head around the logistics of it i guess
Post by Marcus KwokBasically, it is a big database of CRCs for extracted tracks, presumably
over many different CD drives. Therefore, if you get a CRC that matches
the one in the database, you can be fairly certain that the extraction
was successful and accurate.
ok, i get it but i still struggle with some logistics...
does EAC do this accuraterip CRC checking by itself with no intervention
from the user?
and what if you rip as image + cuesheet instead of a track? does it work
Post by TAFKASwith that or just track by track?
and how long does a CRC check back to the database take? wouldn't all that
add a lot more overhead to what EAC is doing (both time and resources)?
and
what about if you are on dialup?? (or like my old PC with no connection at
all anymore!)
and where does EAC report it's findings with accuraterip? how do you even
know if you had a match, or a mismatch?
as a final comment - i don't use EAC for ripping official CDs - so as far as
i can tell, even assuming accuraterip is some great thing & works
wonderfully with EAC, i have zero use for it at all since nothing i use EAC
for would ever BE in its database so - perhaps a question for andre - can he
please release a new version of EAC that includes a way to NOT use
accuraterip???
it just seems that it is unnecessary overhead for someone
like me, plus i don't like programs trying to go out to the 'net & doing
"things" i don't want/need & incurring some kind of risk there - especially
in these paranoid computer times of not just malware/spyware/adware
targeting you but also crap like microsoft, the riaa, the mpaa, etc, all
phoning home, installing rootkits, and other "evil" things just because you
insert a CD, DVD, or any other kind of digital media in your PC
thanks :)
