Discussion:
CDDB.DAT format?

I've searched this forum and the wb, with no luck. Does anyone have
format information for the CDDB.DAT file that EAC 0.9 uses? I've
found plain-text tag-based formats, but this file appears to be
fields with binary numbers separating text. I have 1200 CDs in a
Catraxx database, fully documented and corrected, and would like to
import that data into the CDDB.DAT file before ripping the CDs.

You can convert it into a local freedb database or into the cdplayer.ini
format that windows uses. They are both plain text formats AFAIK. EAC
can import from both formats, but only 1 CD at a time unfortunately.

Thanks. If I can't convert straight into CDDB.DAT I'll try that. My
current plan is to write a VB6 program that extracts the data from
the Access 2000 database in which it currently resides and update
the CDDB.DAT file directly, but a fallback would be to use freedb as
an intermediate file, or use the CDPLAYER.INI format, but only if
that format supports year and genre.

Hi there,

I've searched all messages (which is a pain with Yahoo), but found no
serious hint about how to export and use the *complete* EAC disc
database which ist stored in CDDB.DAT

format that windows uses. They are both plain text formats AFAIK. EAC
...but either of the files don't store all information. CDInfo.txt
doesn't contain any disc information (artist, year, extended info etc.
), cdplayer.ini just some, and I don't know of any program to display
the contents of these file in a nice, easy-browsable way.

(Much like the browser in EAC itself, but as a nice stand-alone
program with search, edit and various export and print functions.)
Some smart Excel format would be okay too.

Yours, Gregor

You need to define the layout in the Export pane of the freedb/Database options
dialog for the DB.txt file.

Well, that doesn't suit me. :-(

Still the extended info is not included and I don't exactly call
this format "easy browsable". Do you have some database tool which
then can read this file?

Yours, Gregor
